Privacy Policy
Nexcue is built and operated by Studio81 Labs s.r.o. (“Nexcue”, “we”, “our”). This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.
We do not sell your data. We do not run advertising networks. Nexcue is designed to be funded by subscriptions and optional paid features — not by monetizing your watch history.
1. What we collect
- Anonymous app identity. Nexcue currently uses an anonymous identifier to operate the app and sync your data between sessions. You are not required to create an account to use the app.
- Tracking data. The shows you add, your tracking state (watching, watch later, paused, finished, dropped), episode progress, recommendation state, and related watch metadata.
- Device information. Operating system, app version, language, timezone, and a push notification token if you enable notifications.
- Usage diagnostics and analytics. Crash reports and product analytics used to improve reliability, performance, and the Nexcue experience. Analytics covers broad interaction categories such as app opens, screens viewed, actions like adding or marking a show, and notification outcomes. We do not collect the names of the specific shows you watch as analytics payload, and we do not share analytics with advertising or marketing networks. Analytics is enabled by default and can be turned off at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy.
- Early access emails. If you join the Nexcue early access list on our website, we collect your email address only to send beta invites, launch updates, or store links.
2. How we use information
- To provide the core Nexcue experience — remembering your shows, generating recommendations, and surfacing new seasons or episodes.
- To send push notifications you explicitly enable.
- To improve app stability, performance, and reliability.
- To send beta invitations or launch updates if you joined early access.
- To respond to support requests and feedback.
We do not use your watch history for advertising, profiling, or behavioral marketing.
3. Who we share information with
Nexcue relies on a small number of infrastructure and metadata providers strictly to operate the service.
- The Movie Database (TMDB). Used to retrieve show metadata such as titles, posters, cast information, release schedules, and episode details. We do not send your personal watch history to TMDB.
- Infrastructure providers. Hosting, database, notification delivery, analytics, and crash reporting services used to operate Nexcue securely and reliably.
We never sell your information. We only disclose information if required by law or necessary to protect the security and integrity of the service.
4. Legal basis for processing
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, Nexcue processes personal data under the following legal bases:
- Performance of the service (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)): processing necessary to provide Nexcue’s core features — your library, tracking, sync, recommendations, and push notifications you have enabled.
- Legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): product analytics and crash reporting used to maintain stability, improve performance, and inform product decisions. We have weighed this against your interests and consider the processing minimal and proportionate. You can opt out at any time as described in Section 1.
- Consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)): early access emails if you join the waitlist on our website, and any other feature that explicitly asks for your permission (for example, push notifications).
- Legal obligation (GDPR Article 6(1)(c)): processing or disclosure required by applicable law or by public authorities acting within their legal powers.
5. Storage and security
Data transmitted between the app and Nexcue services is encrypted in transit. The app also stores a local copy of your library and recommendations on your device so Nexcue can continue working offline.
Infrastructure and databases are hosted within the European Union whenever possible.
We retain core account, library, tracking, episode progress, and recommendation data while your Nexcue identity exists, unless you reset the app or ask us to delete it as described below.
Operational data is kept for shorter periods: product analytics events and notification delivery logs that are not needed as dedupe markers are retained for up to 90 days, while notification dedupe markers may be retained longer to prevent repeated notifications for the same season or episode. Sync mutation idempotency records may be retained while your Nexcue identity exists so offline retries remain safe. Completed cron job execution history is retained for up to 30 days, except that the latest terminal run for each job may be retained longer as an admin health marker. Unfinished job-run guard rows may also be retained longer while they protect against overlapping runs.
6. Resetting the app and deleting data
Nexcue includes an in-app reset option (Settings → Reset) that deletes your server-side account and all associated data — library, tracking, episode progress, recommendation state, notification tokens, and analytics events — and also removes the local copy on your device (library cache, sync state, local authentication data, downloaded metadata). After reset, the app returns to onboarding as if newly installed.
If you have already uninstalled the app and want server-side data associated with your anonymous Nexcue identity deleted, or if you want your early-access email removed from the waitlist, contact us at privacy@nexcue.app.
Depending on your region, you may also have rights under applicable privacy laws to access, correct, restrict, export, or delete your personal data.
7. Children
Nexcue is not directed at children under 13 (or a higher age where required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
8. International transfers
If information is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards permitted by applicable law.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy over time as Nexcue evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
